We are so incredibly proud of one of our young women who bravely shared her story of maternal imprisonment on ITV’s Loose Women. The theme of the programme was about whether mothers should be sent to jail; her interview highlighted the difficulties faced by children being separated from their mothers, who are more often than not their primary caregivers. We really hope that through this interview that the imprisonment of a primary care giver helped more people to understand that imprisoning mothers should be an absolute last resort and avoided wherever possible, due to the damaging impact that this separation is likely to have on children.
